There is an intimate link between the physical environments that children occupy and the quality of their lives. Their housing, the water they drink, the air they breathe, the traffic on their streets and the quality of their schools and neighbourhoods, all have impacts on their health, happiness and long-term development. This documentation is an important contribution to the development of Save the Children’s understanding of and expertise on the impact of the immediate living environment on the protection and care of children in emergencies, the importance of involving children and their families as experts on their own needs, and local reality in the reconstruction process.
