The objective of this series of studies is to assess the manner in which children’s rights are observed in Sri Lankan society. This volume focuses on a study carried out in the Kalutara District of the Western Province in Sri Lanka. This study sets out to examine the consequences to intra-family and inter-family relationships caused by the phenomenon of migrant female labour. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child is used as an important tool to measure the degree of outcome of this occurrence. Thus this study measures and critiques the condition of the rights of a child in a community where Middle East employment has become the primary economic strategy of a majority of families.
