Although a resolution was passed to halve malnutrition, and a long term goal was set to eradicate hunger and achieve food security for all by 2015, hunger and malnutrition continue to offer stiff resistance to development interventions world over. Therefore, the World Food Summit recognized the need to target the people and the places most at risk and identify their causes. It was recommended to establish a more user friendly information system at all levels. The Food and Agriculture Organization initiated the Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Information and Mapping System (FIVIMS) for this reason. This publication documents the first national workshop on FIVIMS that was held in Sri Lanka to discuss and evaluate the relevant existing information systems in the country.
