This resource book contains the papers presented at the “Sustainable Food Security: Agenda for the Millennium” conference organized by the Consumers International Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (CI ROAP). The analyses, case studies and reports are being made available to the public with the confidence that it may encourage everyone to contribute in some measure to the uphill struggles to alleviate hunger and achieve food security for all. The papers have been clustered into seven broad themes linking food security with globalization, new technologies, consumption, gender issues, national food policies, programmes to alleviate food insecurity and food standards. Through this publication it is hoped that a wider audience will be able to expand their perspectives and respond to the challenge of meeting the human right to freedom from hunger and to adequate and healthy food.
