The 2011 Human Development Report focuses on the challenge of sustainable and equitable progress. It highlights how environmental degradation intensifies inequality through adverse impacts on already disadvantaged people and how inequalities in human development amplify environmental degradation. Human development involves expanding people’s choices, building on shared natural resources. In order to promote human development, it is important to address sustainability, locally, nationally and globally in an equitable and empowered manner
