The rather gender insensitive political culture of the South-Asian region has made it difficult for women to enter in to the decision making and policy forming arena that is mainly dominated my males; most of whom have a patriarchal mindset. This case study reveals the major causes for the low participation of women in politics. It highlights the problems and struggles women are faced with before and after their political careers. The study has revealed that one of the major causes for lower political participation of women is the violent culture against women in politics. This violence occurs in both their private and public lives. Furthermore, this study discusses the gender sensitive plans and policies that can be adopted by national parliaments in order to facilitate better governance.
