Mansi Kumarasiri explores the components of a good public space. The space has to be accessible, free and hold diverse personalities. In addition good public spaces must also have accommodation for the differently-abled people and ensure the safety of women and children through the provision of sufficient lighting, railings and various other features. A good public space must be a place of interaction and one that people would want to visit frequently. Mount Lavinia beach is seen as a good public space that embodies most of these features but the success of the Independence Arcade as a good public space is questioned.
