The report is a study conducted by SIDA on the lessons learnt and remaining challenges in parliamentary development assistance. The working paper reviews the state of knowledge on donor approaches and their effectiveness since 2005, and the use of available information and gaps in assessment of results. The report also helps to understand the political economy of parliaments and the drivers of economic growth. Building policies and creating awareness based on needs rather than generic activities, encouragement of south-south learning are other aspects reviewed. The report also takes into perspective the expectations of donor agencies and their commitment to democratic development, results-based approaches and continuous development of goals.
