The Author in this publication has discussed the various tools and techniques of social survey methodology. It refers to broad guidelines for preparing research proposals but different organisations and agencies sponsoring research have their own specific requirements and formats for writing up research proposals. However, the author has discussed essential features of an acceptable research proposal. The author indicates from his own knowledge and experience that the investigator must seek to prepare a realistic research proposal that keeps in mind the possible advantages and constraints of any particular study. Some guidelines proposed are that the research proposal should be comprehensive and self-contained proposal and that there is no page limit. The author also suggests that the proposal must reflect that the investigator has examined available facts and findings relevant to the proposal research and that the design of research is competent in terms of the problem, research setting, known techniques and practical difficulties if any. The author has presented some broad guidelines that may be of help in the preparation of such proposals.
