This manual is the second volume in the CEDPA Training Manual Series. It has been developed by the Training Division of the Centre forDevelopment and Population Activities (CEDPA), with support from the United NationsPopulation Fund (UNFPA). It compiles training activities that CEDPA has used in manyprogrammes to strengthen the training capacity of health, family planning, and otherdevelopment organizations. This manual approaches project design as an on-going processwithin an organization. This process encompasses needs assessment, problem identification,development and implementation of solutions, assessment of outcomes, and planning forthe future. The manual enables trainers to conduct a workshop in all phases of project design. Theworkshop content is applicable to managers in any sector. The projects, designed byparticipants, may be in any field. The manual also provides exercises that will be helpfulto managers in improving their skills in planning, implementing, and managing projects.This manual is intended for use by trainers of project managers in non-governmentorganizations and in government ministries. CEDPA has used versions of these sessionsto train managers and trainers all over the world.
