In the recent past, rural movements have become the most significant social forces in opposition to neoliberalism which is commonly witness in countries such as Brazil, Zimbabwe and the Philippines. Even though rural movements have been on different political reasons, they have similar social issues and homeless peasants and unemployed workers have used various tactics to confront the neoliberal state. The country studies focus on identifying the social composition, strategies, tactics and ideologies of these movements, and examines the most common tactics used such as land occupation. This book also examines the ways neoliberal policy has undermined social reproduction of the rural labour force and the population resistance.
