“Development” as theorised, implemented and delivered both in the Sri Lankan and global context, excludes large groups of people, creates new vulnerabilities and fails to provide lasting solutions for sustainable change. The Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA) hosted ‘Reimagining Development” its 11th annual Poverty Symposium in December 2012, to critically assess whether the concept is obsolete to meet current challenges and reflect on alternate visions of development; focus on the impact of social development policies and reimagine development for the current space and time. The Symposium brought together a varied group of professionals — economists and policymakers as well as artists, poets and thinkers in an effort to encourage a broader and valid dialogue on development paradigms that are more in line with current realities. This video documentary captures the highlights of two days of discussions where the concepts of development was revisited, reassessed and reimagined.
