Socio-cultural and technological developments in recent times have had their impact on almost all domains of human activity, and media is no exception. Strategies and methodologies of yester-year have been modified and re-constituted to meet new social demands and challenges. One such important aspect in media which can, and does, enhance its effectiveness is its participatory role, whereby, in place of top-to-bottom approach, people themselves, as beneficiaries of media, become active participants in the communication process. It is in this context the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, in collaboration with the Open University — Media House, conducted a residential workshop on 26th and 27th August, 2000 at the Wadduwa Holiday Resort, Wadduwa, Sri Lanka.
