This report contains the proceedings of a workshop on major irrigation schemes in Sri Lanka. It analyses the time framework, the nature of resources and the national policy to discuss Sri Lanka’s experience in resource mobilisation. The experiences of the Irrigation Management division and the Mahaweli Economic Agency in mobilising resources are discussed in this report. Sustainable management is analysed from many different angles. This report discusses the role that farmers can play in irrigation system sustainability, the legal support needed and the future strategies and policies that will aid resource mobilisation for sustainable management. It uses case studies and data that have been collected to estimate the cost and institutional requirements. This report covers many aspects of resource mobilisation to ensure sustainable management.
