This study of women migrant returnees is carried out to examine the situation and to identify resources and strategies that assist to achieve financial sustainability in their own lives and in the household economy. The aim of the study is to analyse how returnee migrant women are able to contribute to the overall progress of economic development. This study’s geographic focuses are a village in the Matale district and cluster of villages along the North West coast in the Puttlam District. Thirty households were selected for the study and among them, case studies were formulated and quantitative data were extracted. Moreover, surveys of employment and investment opportunities of state and non-state agencies and services that are potentially useful in implementing self-employment projects were carried out. Finally, on the basis of these findings, conclusions and recommendations were put forward. Funded by the International Organization for Migration, this study is carried out by the Center for Women’s Research.
