Children are vulnerable to a number of social and physical hazards as a result of both natural and man-made disasters as well as structural and social problems in their own homes and societies. The four papers published in this Research Journal are the result of an 18 month project titled “The Inter-university Research and training Programme for Capacity Building in Vulnerability: Research on Children Affected by Human and Natural Disasters in Sri Lanka.” These papers address adult labour migration, television and other extra activities children engage in, educational, social, and physical environments of day care centers, and the way some children balance working and schooling.
