The Department of National Planning of the Ministry of Finance and Planning hasenvisaged a public investment strategy in line with the MahindaChintana Development Framework, 2006-2016. The book documents the development strategy, which is geared towards market economic attributes, and the role of domestic enterprises and foreign investments. The strategy is based on the goals set out in the MahindaChintana - Vision for the Future, which calls for an economy with greener environment and rapid development and greater socio-economic stability, and aims to consolidate as an emerging economy, integrated into the global economy. The book also talks of diverse sectors such as agriculture, petroleum, rubber, tourism and building capacity to face natural disasters such as droughts, tsunamis and flood. The strategy also gives key importance to shared values and inclusive development in Sri Lanka and the empowering of rural villages and small enterprises. The book also gives a broad insight into Sri Lanka's ambitions of excelling in innovation, research and building new frontiers through development projects. All major sectors have been covered in great depth, supported by statistics and benchmarks achieved.
