Compounded by protracted ethno-political conflict and ineffective media reforms and coupled with the imperatives of market economics, the mainstream media in Sri Lanka continues to be burdened with a number of problems. While this report is by no means representative of all media in the North-East, it nevertheless presents a context in which there is much space for sustained inventions in conflict sensitive journalism, basic training, capacity and skills development and IT-based training.
