This report argues that the water crisis is not the result of scarcity, but is instead, the result of poverty, power and inequality. While some people and countries are extremely wealthy, others suffer at the hands of poverty. Their poverty results in the inability to access clean water and hinders their right to adequate sanitation. The competition for water is increasing amongst people and nations. This report highlights how those who are deprived of water are also denied the opportunity to realize their own potential as human beings and to live qualitative lives. The report looks at water for human consumption and how the poor are victimised. It looks into other important areas such as why there are 2.6 billion people without access to sanitation and how one can approach risks, vulnerability and uncertainty that this issue brings about. Furthermore, the report looks at the role water plays in terms of agriculture and the impact it has on human development. It makes a case for why corporation between stakeholders is vital. Under each section, the report deals with how problems can be overcome and how human development can be furthered despite the water crisis.
