Talking Economics Digest, Issue One, 2018 on ‘Creating a Knowledge-based Economy,, one of the biggest challenges in reforming the outdated education system in Sri Lanka. The current system that emphasises success at examinations over any other achievement, coupled with the overloaded curricula, is a cause for concern. Inequities in physical and human resources at the school level only serve to exacerbate this problem. Allocating more funds is not the only answer to these issues; the education system as a whole, needs to be scrutinised and suitable policy reforms need to take place to address these structural weaknesses.
