This study written in 1972, seeks to survey the credit schemes that have been designed to serve the needs of farmers – principally the paddy cultivators;the schemes organized by the State to meet these needs, through the co-operative system; and the use and benefits accruing from them. The study suggeststhat the schemes of agricultural credit were limited in their coverage and that they ran into numerous problems during operations. The study was intended to lay the basis for a radical transformation of agricultural production and the rural structure that supported it.
