‘This study examines the prevalence, determinants and causes of torture and other forms of cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment in Sri Lanka. It provides a comprehensive examination of the legal and institutional framework in Sri Lanka where torture is concerned, and an assessment of whether the system lives up to international standards. The study seeks to determine how legal and institutional mechanisms intended to promote justice and protect against abuse function in practice, in order to identify possible gaps in the system that may lead to the occurrence of torture and CIDTP’.
