This paper is part of a project titled ‘A History of Ethnic Conflict in Sri Lanka: Recollection, Reinterpretation and Reconciliation’. It analyses how Tamil identity is produced and articulated in the Tamil Diaspora community in Toronto, Canada. The paper is divided into three sections. The first is a brief review of existing scholarship on Tamil nationalism. The second discusses the Toronto Tamil Diaspora while the third section maps out resistant/ liberation narratives that are emerging mainly in literary texts. These articles are expected to reach many people, including scholars, media personnel, political activists and NGO personnel, provoking thought and discussion on a range of relevant subjects. Thereby, guiding decision makers at all levels when they aim to establish a viable framework for peace.
