The purpose of this study is to explore paradox of the politics of Sri Lanka’s post tsunami process opening up and then closing down the space for ethnic reconciliation and negotiated peace. It seeks to understand how Sri Lanka managed to slip away another opportunity, however limited for peace restoration through peaceful means. This paper further suggests that the explanation of the paradox can best be found in the politics of the ethnic conflict which prevailed at the time of the tsunami disaster and after.
