Veddas are the aborigines or indigenous people of Sri Lanka. It is a popularly known that it is stated in the Mahawansa that Veddas are descended from Prince Vijaya, the founding father of the Sinhala nation. Researchers observe that the Veddas are disappearing and have given warnings about the decline of their distinct culture. Development, government forest reserve restrictions, and the civil war have disrupted the traditional Vedda ways of life. This book gives an in-depth introduction into the Veddas as a people, their history and their current ways of life. The publication also reviews current literature on the Veddas, creating a bibliography of Vedda-related texts, including their religious beliefs, customs, heritage, as well as recording contemporary poetry and art created about the Veddas. Literature Survey of Vedda Research and Bibliography seeks to bring together and record all literature and knowledge known thus far about the Veddas, into the pages of one book.
