This study explores the likely magnitude of the under-estimation of urban poverty and the implications for methodology of estimating urban poverty in a multi-dimensional context. The paper overviews poverty measures in Sri Lanka, multi dimensionality of poverty, urban poverty in Sri Lanka and urban poverty measurement under multi dimensional context. Sample households were selected purposively based in Colombo. Analysis has been done using a set of basic needs indicators reflecting the multi dimensional poverty.
