The objective of this series of studies is to assess the manner in which children’s rights are observed in Sri Lankan society. This volume focuses on a study carried out in the Tangalle electorate of the Hambantota district in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka, that explores the tourist industry as a whole and how it has influenced the lives of children of the coastal fisher-folk communities. The sociological dynamic specific to this particular type of community gives expression to many social realities. This study seeks to understand the sociological reality of the condition of children in this particular type of rural society.
