An entire generation of Sri Lankan children, especially those in the North and East has lived most part of their life ravaged by the civil war. Throughout the country, communities have been affected both by natural resources and the lack of attention directed their way due to the war. Sri Lanka has the opportunity to renew its obligation to the Convention on the Rights of the Child that it ratified in 1991, and restore in particular the right to peace and security that many children have long been denied. This report examines some of the important issues including social welfare, child nutrition, education, justice and protection from abuse. Even though making peace is crucial, it is the only way to move forward. Sri Lanka’s most invaluable and endlessly renewable resource is its children and by the energy and enthusiasm the children could offer and enabling them to share their views, inspirations, it is possible to fulfill the hope of building a peaceful Sri Lanka.
