This report by the UTHR(J) explores the health of the peace process one year on. However for all the celebration, both internationally and in Sri Lanka, the conditions are not encouraging. This report examines the states of democratic rights, human rights, and inter-communal relations in the North-East during this ceasefire. It also brings to light the LTTE’s forays into the economy, which have been disastrous. This report raises the idea that the LTTE might return to war due to the many violations of the ceasefire agreement. It also states that a renewed out break of war would lead to the most poignant of tragedies for thousands of children who have been coerced into the ranks of the LTTE throughout the peace process. This report aims to examine the human rights violations of the recent conflicts along with the severe violation of children’s rights by the LTTE.
