While there has been a rise in the attention and international outrage concerning child labour, there has also been a rise in the number of incidents of child labour. This report serves to discuss the emerging global movement against the use of child labour and concentrate on the issues faced by Asian countries in particular. The report analyses the nature of the problem in detail such as the lack of data available, the current trends in Asia and the nature of the work these children are made to do. It also highlights issues related to rickshaw riders and garment workers to carpet weavers, hazardous conditions and health problems faced by child workers and the push and pull factors that cause child labour to take place. The report also discusses the responses on an international, regional and individual country basis. It conveys the laws that are in place and the steps that have recently been taken to combat this problem. It also acknowledges the challenges that these action plans have and will face. This report hopes to give the readers a comprehensive understanding on the nature of child labour in Asia.
