The objective of this series of studies is to assess the manner in which children’s rights are observed in Sri Lankan society. This volume focuses on a study carried out in the Badulla District of the Uva Province of Sri Lanka. It examines the rights of children within a community which experienced the impact of the collapse of a commercial, agricultural economy that could survive only in a closed, protected, economic environment, and did inevitably collapse, when the protection was withdrawn, and the local economy opened to market based competition.
