This is an official Government Policy Paper that was presented at the Sri Lanka Development Forum in June 2002. The document contained the entire package of economic reforms recommended by the World Bank and IMF that was aimed to be implementedspeedily. The document outlines economic development policies that the Government plans to undertake over the next three years, although its repercussions will be felt for years to come. This document specifies six major pillars which constitute the strategic foundation for poverty reduction efforts. The six-pronged strategy consists of building a supportive macro-economic environment, reducing conflict-related poverty, creating opportunities for the poor to participate in economic growth, investing in people, empowering the poor, and strengthening governance and implementing an effective monitoring and evaluation system.
