The aim was to stage a loud, colourful and lively get-together without dry “shop talk” or a fixed seating plan, allowing as many people as possible to gather general impressions, pursue their personal interests, and make their own discoveries. What better way to do that, than to hold a market? This publication attempts the difficult task of documenting this lively ‘market’ conducted by GTZ in 1994. The topic was “Participatory Learning Approaches in Development Cooperation,” and it attracted both visitors and exhibitors from Germany and abroad, as well as from the GTZ. In addition to describing selected methods and approaches in detail, this publication also incorporates an extensive catalogue containing brief information on most of the exhibitors and methods.
