World Summit for Social Development was held in Copenhagen in 1995. As a follow-up activity, the first National Conference for Social Development was held at the BMICH on the 14th of September 1995. The main objectives of this National Conference was to enable the dissemination of the concepts and declaration arrived at the World Summit for Social Development policies. The National Seminar held on the 11th of December 1998 aims at both creating awareness on the commitments of the World Summit for Social Development and to promote authorities concerned to attain the targets of 20/20 initiatives by the year 2000. The outcome of this seminar is envisaged that it would pave the way for closer co-ordination among the Line Ministries. This booklet serves as a source of reference material to understand the Social Development Issues from the point of view of the World Summit and to be used as a guideline for planning and implementation of programmes and projects to achieve the overall objectives of the World Summit for Social Development.
