The cover story in this edition is titled “Our Ocean, The forgotten South Asia”. Scientists cannot agree on exactly what percentage of the earth,s oceans have been explored by human, but their range is staggeringly low. It is time to address the forgotten Indian Ocean, with South Asia collectively taking on the role of central custodian. As indicated in this edition,s cover photograph, it is important to make the waters of the Indian Ocean part of our home. This edition also carries an article titled “Sri Lanka,s most war-affected community” where the author speaks with Himal,s contributing editor Ahilan Kadirgamar about the impact of the civil war on the fishing industry, the problem of South Indian trawlers encroaching on Sri Lankan waters, and the need for more advanced boats. Other articles in this issue are “Pakistan,s great flood”; “Generan Than Shwe in his Labyrinth”; and “Beijing-Islamabad: One track partnership”.
