This report is a summary of the first regional session of the Global Biodiversity Forum for South and Southeast Asia (GBF-SSEA), held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 24-26 October 1999. The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is the first international environment convention to address the conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use and the equitable sharing of benefits. The convention covers a very broad array of issues, and is remarkable in its scope and comprehensiveness.
