This volume presents the findings from the study that was carried out in the Matara district of Sri Lanka to get a better understanding of social mobilization programme experiences. The report presents five main sections, focusing an introduction to the study and provides insight into the major developments in policies at the time, and how the structural adjustment policies have affected disadvantaged groups. This section is followed by a section on the integrated rural development and social mobilization programme. The third section looks at structural adjustment policies and social mobilization through a conceptualization of relationships, including the profile of the socially mobilized and self employment activities with conclusions and recommendations for the future.
