With changes in the global order of industrial development, the demand for female labour has increased in establishments overseas. However, the garment factory workers migrating for employment have been neglected in terms of the protection and welfare they receive from the government. There is very little visibility for such workers in the migrant labour force in comparison to the migrant domestic workers. The Center for Women’s Research, Sri Lanka, began this study to explore and assess the conditions encountered by garment factory workers in Mauritius, Maldives and the Sultanate of Oman. Through this process, the main objective of the study has been to contribute towards improving the status of female migrant workers, by identifying policy interventions to safeguard their rights.
