This study is a preliminary review of Sri Lanka’s micro-finance sector in terms of the demand for and supply of micro-finance services, the different methodologies practiced, and the environment in which the sector operates. Chapters 2 and 3 of the study examine key questions such as the gaps in service provision, the regulatory environment, government policies and practices, and issues of sustainability affecting the micro-finance institutions themselves. Chapter 4 contains a summary of the main findings as well as a comprehensive list of recommendations.
