The objective of this series of studies is to assess the manner in which children’s rights are observed in Sri Lankan society. This volume focuses on a study carried out in the Fort area of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Being the commercial capital of the country, Colombo is home to many destitute that have come in search of an income and shelter. These people that have resorted to the streets are those that have decided to move away from the village community, in search of better lives in the city. The purpose of this study is to analyse the relevance of the United Nation’s declaration of the Rights of a Child, to the children of street community.
