The Vanni education rehabilitation programme (VERP) is a component of the Basic Education Sector Programme jointly planned and implemented by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Education and Cultural Affairs, the Provincial Ministry of Education of North Eastern Province, the Vanni Education Council and the German Technical Cooperation. The present report aims to describe the effects of the VERP as it was in mid-October 2002, the beginning stage of implementation.
