The Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) Unit was established within the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to provide necessary information to country offices for efficient targeting of the limited resources. During the year 2002, the VAM unit of the WFP-Sri Lanka compiled a map presenting the spatial variation of the vulnerability of Divisional Secretary (DS) Divisions to food insecurity and it is the first map on food insecurity, ever prepared in Sri Lanka. This map was prepared based on the findings
of the secondary data analysis and it covered all DS divisions including those in the Northern and Eastern provinces.
